Rangeometer 

Rangeometer was developed as the result of a local country club's request for a device that could, no mater its location, determine the distance to various flags on the driving range.

The result was Rangeometer. The Rangeometer is a weather proof, customized GPS based device designed to be used on a golf driving range or golf course in order to determine and display the distance from the golfers driving location to known and recorded flag locations on the range.  As driving ranges may be particularly wide and due to the fact that the driving locations are often relocated, distances can vary widely as a result of location or day.

Made of 3d printed and laser cut parts, a customized off the shelf, water proof case, microcontroller and other electronic circuits.  Stickers were designed and cut for the face of the unit. The cradle was laser cut and then heat bent into its final configuration in a custom made jig.

The Rangeometer is activated by simply pressing and releasing the button on the right side of the unit.  It’s best that the unit is in its cradle prior to activating.  After approximately 3 minutes, the unit will display the current date, battery status and distances to know flag locations designated by their colors as well as the distances to the < left, ^center and >right sides of the end of range (EOR).

Rangeometer will automatically turn off after the measurements are updated and displayed.  This information will remain on the screen until the unit is powered on again.  Rangeometer is equipped with two solar cells that recharge the battery throughout the day, when outside, while the unit is off.  As a result, it will rarely or possibly never need to be physically recharged as long as the unit remains in at least moderately sunny conditions every few days. The unit may also be charged using a wireless charger.  Rangeometer can receive over the air firmware updates while connected to WiFi, if the end user desires changes to the onboard programming.
